Before joining Ashford Advisors, Shyam served as a Financial Professional and Registered Representative with New York Life Mutual Insurance Company. His career also includes more than two decades in senior leadership roles within information technology and risk management across the financial services and healthcare sectors. Notably, he served as Director of IT at Synovus Financial Services Corp, where he designed and implemented ServiceNow IT Service Management solutions. He also led the development of a comprehensive IT Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity plan at Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare and previously implemented enterprise systems and IT asset management strategies at Viking Range Corporation and ServiceMaster Companies.
Shyam holds a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Computer Science from Mississippi State University and an Executive MBA in Finance and Management from Delta State University. He earned the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) designation in March 2024 and holds Series 6, 63, 65, and 7 licenses, as well as insurance and health licenses in the state of Tennessee.
He is an active member of the Financial Planning Association-Memphis Chapter, and volunteers with several nonprofit organizations, including the National Kidney Foundation of West Tennessee, SCORE, and the Indian Community Fund for Greater Memphis (ICFGM), where he serves on the education board.
Originally from the southern tip of India, Shyam came to the United States to pursue graduate studies. He currently resides in Germantown, TN, with his wife Veena Ammal, a practicing dentist and owner of Smileaway Family Dentistry in Cordova, TN. Together they have two sons, Tejas and Neerej, who are currently in college.
