Parts of Medicare & Knowing Your Options
Medicare Part A – Hospital insurance covering Inpatient Hospital Stays, Skilled Nursing Facility Care, and Hospice Care.
Medicare Part B - Medical Insurance covering treatments in or out of the hospital, and outpatient hospital treatment such as physician services, inpatient and outpatient medical and surgical services and supplies, diagnostic tests, physical and speech therapy, and durable medical equipment.
Medicare Parts A & B are what’s known as “Original Medicare” and enrollment is handled through the Social Security Administration. However, Parts A & B alone include deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments which could lead to considerable medical expenses.
Medicare beneficiaries have 2 options to help alleviate some of those expenses:
1) Medicare Supplement Policy + Part D Prescription Drug Plan
Sometimes referred to as a “Medigap” plan, Medicare Supplement Insurance works in conjunction with Original Medicare to fill many of the gaps in coverage such as your Part A deductible and Part B Coinsurance. Medicare Supplement Insurance is provided by private carriers and generally comes with a flat monthly premium.
With Original Medicare, you are also required to sign up for Prescription Drug coverage, known as Part D. We will perform an individual analysis of your prescription drugs with all available plans, to find the most suitable option for you.
2) Medicare Advantage
Medicare Advantage plans, sometimes referred to as Part C, take the benefits of Part A&B and combine them into one managed care plan run by private insurance companies.
You are typically required to either only use doctors within the plan’s network or pay more for out of network providers.
Most plans include a $0 or low monthly premium, and you are subject to pay a deductible, copays/coinsurance, and a maximum annual out of pocket limit.
Many Advantage Plans include Part D benefits along with coverage for services not included in Original Medicare such as dental, vision, and hearing.
We can help find which option is right for you!
