Enjoy the Journey – Katherine Travels the Oregon Coast

Avid fans of nature, beaches, and forests, Katherine and her husband, Chris, recently celebrated their 30th anniversary on the beautiful Oregon coast. They flew into Portland and drove south, starting at much-beloved Cannon Beach, just steps from the iconic Haystack Rock. From there, they continued on to Yachats, an artsy, walkable town full of galleries, coffee shops, and bakeries, set along a rugged coastline of crashing surf, basalt cliffs, and tide pools.

Just down the coast sits the Heceta Head Lighthouse, built in 1893. Its assistant lightkeeper's house, one of the last remaining on the Pacific Coast, is now a beautifully preserved bed and breakfast. The view from the lighthouse's perch 206 feet above the Pacific was spectacular, but the seven-course breakfast stole the show.

Next, the Maraschins headed to Tu Tu' Tun Lodge in Gold Beach, a nature lover's dream set along a quiet bend of the Rogue River. They stayed in one of the lodge's glass cabins, compact yet luxurious retreats wrapped in mirrored glass that blend into the surrounding forest while offering panoramic views. With kayaking and swimming in the river, a heated outdoor pool, and hiking options galore, it's a great place to retreat from the world for a few days of rest and serenity.

The trip wrapped up in Mendocino, California, at the Heritage House, an old favorite. Katherine and Chris came home rested, relaxed, and invigorated for life in the real world.
