Enjoy the Journey – Linda's Banda Sea Adventure!

We hope you are having a great summer.  As you travel and explore, do not forget to send us your photos! Our own Linda T. and her husband recently returned from an unforgettable diving trip to the North Forgotten Island in Indonesia, a remote archipelago in the Banda Sea, one of the deepest bodies of water on earth at 24,000 feet.

Here is a fun piece of history: The tiny Banda Islands were once the world's only source of nutmeg and mace, making them so valuable that European powers fought fiercely to control them during the 17th century. In 1667, the Dutch and the English even struck one of history's most remarkable deals: the Dutch gained the tiny nutmeg-producing island of Run in the Banda Islands, while the English kept Manhattan (then called New Amsterdam). Although nutmeg seedlings were eventually smuggled to places like Grenada, India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Zanzibar, and the Caribbean, breaking the Dutch monopoly, the Banda Islands remain the historic birthplace of nutmeg and mace.

Linda spent 13 days living aboard the Arenui, completing 39 dives alongside 16 fellow divers and a crew of 22. It was, by all accounts, an experience of a lifetime. She has shared some wonderful photos. Look closely and you might even spot Nemo.

Thank you for enjoying the journey with us! If there is anything we can to do help you, please give us a call.

Elaine, Scott and Linda
