SEP-IRA stands for a Simplified Employee Pension Individual Retirement Arrangement. It provides business owners a method to contribute toward their employees' retirement as well as their own retirement savings.
A SEP-IRA can still be opened and funded for 2017 if done so before the 2018 tax deadline. For some people this may be a great option.
